about clayhouse

Welcome to clayhouse! A fun, friendly, and inclusive space for ALL people at ALL skill levels to create and learn.

Ceramics can be a difficult art form to explore, given the expensive tools and skill sets needed to form, glaze, and fire clay. Elitism and gate keeping can also be a challenge in the arts, and people are often intimidated.

Clayhouse aims to remove these common barriers, making the art form more available to everyone. We are anti-elitism, pro-sharing and exploring art together. No matter your budget, age, or experience, our studio has options for you. The only requirements are kindness and embracing a culture built around sharing experience and wisdom.

Who are these people running this cool place?

Owned and operated by the Dunn family in beautiful Anacortes, Washington, Artist & Potter Crystal Dunn runs the every day operations at the studio. She enjoys teaching many of the classes and workshops, and is always down for a good laugh. Formerly a canine behaviorist from Austin, Texas, she loves all dogs, hiking, and building functional pottery.

Potter Jason Dunn manages our back end operations and some of our studio tech work. A software developer by day, he has played a part in building many video games you might know. Ask him about it and he’ll be all shy, awkward, and humble, like it’s no big deal, even though we all think it is.

Artist Oliver Dunn assists with private parties and creating demos for walk-in projects. They love illustration, anime, and snacks. They look forward to working more full time at the studio in the future, but that’s probably because they haven’t had to bilge pump the sink tanks yet.

Irene is our Studio Manager. She’s an amazing water color artist, to-go mug aficionado, and dog mom. Sometimes she plays bad 2000’s pop music at the studio, but we love her anyway. Things run smoothly at the studio largely because Irene is on top of things.

Clayhouse also employs numerous other artistic coaches and instructors, some regulars, and some who visit from afar.

If you’re interested in teaching a workshop or class at our studio, we’d love to hear from you!
